Virtual Classic Car & Truck Show on Facebook

For most of 2020, we have all been looking for creative ways to get “together” while staying safe by social distancing and not gathering at large event.  For the most part, typical classic car shows have been cancelled due to the coronavirus.

Collector car auctions have switched gears to online-only events.  Barrett-Jackson, as an example, has had great success with online auctions and just recently wrapped up their second online-only auction during the month of May.

But what about all the car shows we know and love?  It takes some serious creativity to come up with a plan on how we can all enjoy and admire classic cars and trucks these days.  There was a Quarantine Car Cruise in Huntington Beach, CA that drew a lot of praise and criticism.  About 2,500 vehicles showed up and cruised the streets while staying socially distant by staying in the vehicles.  Unfortunately, there was a lot of disapproval due to many people parking their rides, getting out and closely socializing with each other.

There have been many attempts at creating socially distant car shows with mixed results.  Now, a leading specialty insurance organization known for its collector car coverage, American Modern, is hosting its first-ever virtual collector car show in search of the most impressive classic and collector cars across the country.

In honor of Classic Car Appreciation on July 10, American Motors started an online-only classic car show.  From now until July 23, classic car owners are encouraged to visit the American Modern Collector Car Facebook Page and submit a description and one to three photos of their classic car or truck.

There are 6 different car show categories that owners can submit pictures for a chance to win.  A team of American Modern judges will select winners by July 27th. From July 27th – August 4th, images of all submissions and the winner from each category will be displayed in a gallery on American Modern’s Facebook page. Additionally, visitors can vote for their favorite winning collector vehicle and a “fan favorite” will be awarded to the classic car submission that gets the most engagement.

Here are the show categories that classic car and truck owners may enter:

  • Best Street Rod/Hot Rod Car or Truck
  • Best Antique Car or Truck
  • Best Muscle Car
  • Best Classic Car or Truck
  • Best Street Machine, Restomod Car or Truck
  • Best Modern-Day Domestic Car or Truck

“While many in-person car shows remain canceled due to COVID-19, we wanted to provide an opportunity to safely continue the cherished summer tradition of spotlighting special classic cars,” said Rick Drewry, Senior Claims Specialist, American Modern. “With more than 25 years of experience in the collector car industry, we understand how classic car owners feel about their vehicles, and we are excited to offer a creative way to celebrate the passion of the collector car community.”

We are already enjoying the images of the classic cars and trucks that owners are submitting.  There are some really cool pictures like this 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 that has never been restored, just maintained as it drives though a giant redwood tree.

We will be checking in daily to see all the classic car and truck submissions.  While we still wish we could see them all in person, we are not out of the woods quite yet with COVID 19 and this type of virtual car show is the next best thing.  Cannot wait to see who wins!

Here are some of our favorite submissions so far!
