Top 10 Classic Car Shows & Events in America for 2019

Happy New Year!  We hope you all had a memorable and safe holiday!  January 2019 is here and many of our classic cars and trucks are hibernating for the winter.  Perfect time to make plans to go check out some classic car shows and events happening around the country in 2019.

Mark your calendars for the upcoming shows this summer or make an excuse to travel to Arizona this January.  Here is a list of the best classic car & truck shows and events happening around the USA in 2019.

1. Arizona Auction Week – Phoenix, AZ

At least one of us attends this every year as it really is a week of automotive greatness.  Starting things is off is the pillar of auction week, Barrett-Jackson.  It is a televised event that showcases over 2,000 of the finest classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars, trucks and modern-day exotics alike as they cross the auction block.  Here is an article about the guys from Wilson Auto Repair’s trip the 2018 Barrett Jackson show.

The 2019 show starts in just a matter of days (Jan 12-20, 2019) and we are excited to attend the event again!  That is not the only show in town that week however, during January the Phoenix metro area also plays host to car auctions for RM Sotheby’s, Gooding & Company, Bonhams, Russo and Steele, Worldwide and Silver.

2. Hot August Nights – Reno, NV

This one isn’t until towards the end of summer (August of course), which is good because you will want to take your time planning a trip to this week-long celebration of classic cars and rock ‘n roll.  Since 1986, Hot August Nights has been drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators and participants to northern Nevada to revel in nostalgia, enjoy top live music from entertainers of the 50s, 60s and 70s and partake in many different classic car events including show-n-shines, controlled cruises and more. There is even a massive swap meet with more than 700 vendors.  If you are feeling lucky and looking for fun in early August, then Reno is the place to be!

3. Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance – Amelia Island, FL

Considered by many to be one of the finest automobile-concours in all of the world, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is held at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island in Amelia Island, Florida.  This three-day March event welcomes the finest vintage cars to compete for top awards.

Scrupulous expert judges award 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishes for each class in the event, and the judges deliberate and select one car from the group of first-place winners for the best of show award.  There are also many top-collar auctions happening over the weekend which is no surprise when you meet this show’s attendees.

4. Monterey Car Week – Monterey, CA

Monterey Car Week is West Coast’s version of Amelia Island Concours.  Prestigious award shows, auctions and upper-crust events.   The star event of this high-end automotive week is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.  This week-long event in Monterey (August 9 – 18, 2019) will turn this city’s streets into a parade of some of the most rare and expensive vintage cars and exotics anywhere in the world. To most collectors, this is THE most prestigious classic car event in all of North America.

5. The Woodward Dream Cruise – Detroit, MI

Could there be a more fitting location for a classic car show than Detroit, Michigan?  We think not! On the 3rd Saturday of August each year, more than 40,000 classic cars are displayed to more than 1,000,000 attendees!

The Woodward Dream Cruise is happening this year on August 17, 2019.  If you are in the Detroit area, grab a lawn chair and claim your spot along Woodward Avenue for one heck of a classic car cruise.

6. Charlotte AutoFair – Charlotte, NC

The Charlotte AutoFair is another enormous event held twice a year. One in April and the other in September. The Charlotte Motor Speedway play host for this 4-day event which easily exceeds 100,000 people in attendance.  They are all here to see more than 50 car clubs showing off their rides, about 2500 classic cars for sale and a total of 10,000 vendor spaces selling everything from soup to nuts.  Many enthusiasts claim it is the world’s largest automotive extravaganza!

7. Eastern Fall Meet – Hershey, PA

You think Hershey and like most of us, you think chocolate, But Hershey also hosts the Eastern Fall Meet organized by the Hershey Region of AACA.  In early fall, head to Hershey to visit over 9,000 vendors, view over 1,000 cars for sale in the car corral and admire the approximately 1200 cars at the car show on Saturday.  This year’s event is happening October 9-12, 2019.

“Refer to it as antique car mecca. Cross it off your bucket list. Just simply say ‘Hershey’ to an antique car hobbyist and they’ll know exactly what you are talking about,” states the AACA, the world’s largest and oldest antique car club.

8. Iola Car Show – Iola, WI

This is where a lot of them good ol’ boys go every summer to eye up classic cars and trucks for sale.  The Iola Car Show is happening July 11 – 13, 2019 at the Iola Old Car Show Grounds.  It’s three days of listening to bands play, drinking beer, camping and oh yeah, classic car show.

There will actually be more than 100,000 attendees, 4,000+ swap spaces, 2,000+ show cars surrounded by 1,600 campsites all set in open Wisconsin fields.  Come and enjoy the free concerts and stay the weekend an mosey around the cars.  Iola might be a small town of 1,300 residents, but this 3-day event is anything but tiny!

9. State Fair of Texas Auto Show – Dallas, TX

Guess what they say is true… Everything is bigger in Texas.  As a matter of fact, the car show in this 400,000 sq. ft. indoor/outdoor venue lasts almost a month!  September 27 – October 20, 2019 to be exact. Visitors are treated to not only a great collection of classic and custom cars and trucks, but they are also able to feast their eyes on the latest models coming soon to a dealer near you.  Almost every manufacturer is on hand showing off where they came from and where they are going.  This massive event is an excellent blend of classic meets contemporary.

10. Goodguys Rod & Custom Association – Nationwide Events

For many enthusiasts, we saved the best for last.  Why are they the best you ask?  Well, in our opinion they put on too many great shows all over the country for folks everywhere to enjoy.  Coast to coast there are Goodguys Rod & Custom Association events all year long.  Can’t think of any other organization that does all that, can you?

All of their events are packed with thousands of the best classic cars and trucks in the country.  It is a country-wide community of guys and gals that all share the love for hot rods, customs, classics, trucks, street machines and muscle cars through 1987.

Have a look at the 2019 calendar of events to find a Goodguys car show coming to a town near you!  Who knows, maybe we will see you at the 9th Spring Lone Star Nationals March 8-10, 2019 at the Texas Motor Speedway.  If not, definitely keep an eye out for us at Goodguys 22nd Speedway Motors Southwest Nationals this November 15-17, 2019 at WestWorld of Scottsdale.  We will certainly be there!
