Get Ready for the 25th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise
The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day celebration of classic cars & trucks. Every year more than 1 million people flock to this historic event where more than 50,000 classic cars & trucks, hot rods, custom-mods, muscle cars and other collectable vehicles take over Woodward Ave in downtown Detroit.
This event really should be on the bucket list of anyone claiming to be a car enthusiast. The festivities will get started on August 15th and conclude with the massive cruise that ends the event on Saturday, August 17th.
Ford is the presenting sponsor for this 3-day event with lots to do and see before the big cruise on Saturday. On Thursday, Ford will unveil a new NASCAR Mustang at the Ford Media Clubhouse during a mid-day gathering called Track Talk.
Following Track Talk, you can witness Ford engineers tear down then put back together a Shelby GT500 engine while discussing what is involved in building a performance motor. Then on Friday the excitement continues as Ford reveals a custom 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 with a one-of-a-kind paint color. The 2020 Mustang will then be raffled to raise funds for Type 1 diabetes research.
The next day is the day we’re all waiting for. Saturday August 17 will be the final day of the event and will play host to the biggest car cruise known to man. The best part of it is, all you have to do to participate in the Woodward Dream Cruise is show up with your favorite collector car or pull up a lawn chair along Woodward Avenue.
The cruise will kick-off with the Mile of Mustangs. It is the 21st year for this tradition which will bring nearly 1,000 Mustangs to 9 Mile between Woodward Avenue and Bermuda Street. The cruise itself starts one mile north of Detroit in Ferndale, MI and goes up to Pontiac, MI, and back. About 10 miles each way, it has several “high profile” cruise areas, the three most popular are at 13 Mile & Woodward, 9 Mile & Woodward, and top of the loop in Pontiac.
If you are fortunate to be able to attend, you can catch a full list of events and the cruise route map here. They also answer some of the most frequently asked questions right on the Woodward Dream Cruise website. You can also stay in touch with all that is happening on their Facebook page.
