Dodge Challenger Wins “Car of Texas” at 2019 TAWA Texas Auto Roundup
Mopar muscle wins the award for “Car of Texas” at the 2019 Texas Auto Roundup. The Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) is an automotive press organization that brought together 44 journalist members from Texas, who cover the automotive industry across the United States, to experience driving and evaluating numerous vehicles. They then must judge and award these vehicles in numerous classes. The holy grail of the event however is the “Car of Texas” award.
“Driving enthusiasts in Texas love horsepower, and the Challenger’s classic muscular lines and monumental power won over our voters,” said Michael Marrs, president of TAWA and co-host of the In Wheel Time radio show in Houston. “The most powerful Challenger that Dodge brought to the Roundup — the SRT Hellcat Redeye — drew attention for its 797-horsepower engine and raucous exhaust note.”
The event took place April 14-16, 2019 in Denton, Texas and was 3 days of TAWA members taking vehicles on a series of street and handling exercises, pushing performance cars and taking other vehicles on slalom, acceleration and braking tests. It sounds like a real blast and we will be applying to attend next year’s 2020 Texas Auto Roundup.
The Dodge Challenger also won the 2019 “Performance Car of Texas” award. If you are curious to see what other awards were given and which cars took the trophies home, you can see the full results on the TAWA website.
