Earlier this month we wrote about a very special auction that was happening in Iowa. It was the Bill “Coyote” Johnson Classic Car Collection going up for auction where 92 classic / muscle cars & trucks were crossed the block at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Red Oak, Iowa. All vehicles were sold as is with no reserves.
Since Bill Johnson was 16, he had been buying, selling and trading classic cars and on Sept. 14, 2019 the time had come for him to part with part of his coveted collection. Over 90 cars and trucks that Mr. Johnson owned went up for auction.
Just about every type of collector vehicle was in the collection. There were distinctive classics, a few 80s pickups and at least five late-model Trans Ams. The bulk of the collection however were Mopar muscle cars.
Bill’s favorite ride is the Plymouth Roadrunner. Specifically, it was a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner that originally enticed him to love Motor City muscle when he was just a teenager. We are guessing his love for hunting down Road Runners is what earned him the “Coyote” handle.
Ten of them were auctioned off along with a handmade 7 ft Cartoon Roadrunner sign. There were also numerous Dodge Chargers, Challengers, Super Bees and Plymouth Barracudas that completed the docket. The auction was by VanDerBrink Auctions and you can see the entire vehicle docket on their website.
Some of the vehicles were meant for parts, some were project cars, some had partial restorations done and there were many that were fully restored. It was an amazing opportunity to get your hands on some serious muscle cars for bargain prices in our opinion.
