Whether you have a coupe, a fastback or a convertible, the 1965 Mustang is truly a classic. These body styles carried over into the 1966 model year before the model underwent more transformations that the Mustang is famous for. 2010 marks the 45th anniversary of the '65 Mustang and there is plenty of interest by owners of this American classic in getting their cars repaired or fully restored. This excites the team here at Wilson Auto Repair because we love these cars as much as their owners do.

The 1965 Mustang came with either a six cylinder or a 289 cubic inch V8 engine. One percent of the Mustangs produced in 1965 were called
"K-code cars," sporting the 271horsepower 289 HI-PO engine. This engine was discontinued in 1967, but collectors and Mustang aficionados love this early muscle car.

Ford factories were constantly being retooled throughout this model year, so the 1965 Ford Mustang actually comes in many variations. including the Mustang GT and the Mustang 2+2 fastback.

Another fun extra was the Rally-Pac, which mounted a tachometer and clock on the steering column. The popularity of this option (which was only about $75 installed by the dealer!) stemmed from the success the Mustang experienced in the Monte Carlo rally years earlier.

Other features of this great American automobile include an alternator that replaced the original generator and an air conditioning unit separate from the heating unit. The air conditioning needed to be installed separately and is one of the unique features of this classic automobile.

Repairs and restorations of 1965 Mustangs often involve the suspension and handling of the car. Wilson Auto Repair has vast experience providing the right parts to help improve the brakes, steering and handling of your 1965 Mustang.

As with many cars from the 1960s, rust proofing was less than adequate, so we have extensive experience replacing rusted and rotted floors for the '65 Mustang. While a compromised floor can weaken the overall body of the car, so can the higher horsepower replacement engines added over the years. One way we can help to strengthen the body of your 1965 Mustang is with the addition of frame rail supports.
