Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How can I improve the gas milage of my car?
A. There are three things that you can do to increase the fuel mileage of your car.
1) Have the oil changed every 3000 miles
2)Use Fuel Injection Cleaner twice a year.
3) Keep your air filter clean. 4)Perform the recommended maintenance for the mileage on your car.
Q. Check list for you car before leaving town!
A. Check all of you fluids: Oil Level: Make sure it is has been changed in the last 3000 miles.

Coolant Level: The overflow container should be at the correct level. If not full of fluid, fill this container after warming up the engine and recheck before driving out of town. If you are going north be sure that you have proper Anti-freeze protection.

Power Steering Fluid: If this fluid is low add the correct type of fluid as recommended in your owners manual

Transmission Fluid: The normal procedure for checking this fluid is to start the engine, apply the brake and put the transmission in every gear then into park. Shut off the engine and check the fluid. Wipe off the dipstick then insert the dipstick into the tube. Remove the second time and inspect the level of the fluid. If the fluid is low be sure to add the transmission fluid that is recommended for your car. We pointed out on our recent radio show that there are now 15 different types of transmission fluid. Use the correct fluid for your car.

Check your tire pressure: The correct pressure is posted on the driver’s door. Be sure you know where the spare, jack, and lug wrench are located before leaving town.

Check all your lighting: Headlights (high and low beam) parking lights, side marker lights, license plate lights, turn signals front and rear and brake lights.

Replace your wiper blades: Anybody can do this. Buy a new set of wiper blades so you can see if it rains during your trip.

Check the Windshield Washer Level: This is the fluid that sprays on your windshield. You can buy freeze protected premixed fluid. Water will freeze and break the container.
Q. What is a Technical Service Bulletin?
A. It is a service flash from the manufacture telling the dealer that the factory has become aware of a problem with one of their products. The alert tells the dealer how to handle this problem. This is where a hidden warranty begins. If the problem becomes huge the dealer and factory will take care of the trouble at no charge to you, but will not notify you of the problem.

If you are having a problem with your car and it is just out of warranty, you should look through the Technical Service Bulletins to see if the factory has notified the dealer about your problem. If you find the bulletin, take the bulletin and your car back to the dealer to see if they will assist you with the repair.

This is the link to the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration web page for Cars Vehicle & Equipment Information. Next scroll down to Safety Problems & Issues on the left hand side of the page. Under this heading is Technical Service Bulletins. It is the 8th topic. You will be required to enter your vehicle Type, Year, Make, and Model. Each has a drop down box to assist you in finding your car or truck.
